Rotary laser cutting

Sunday, July 16, 2023 0 Comments
Laser engraving on round surfaces can be easily done if the system has a rotational axis.
Typically a laser engraver has an "X axis" (the left to right direction), a "Y axis" ( the front to back direction), and sometimes a "Z axis" (up and down direction).

When you want to cut or engrave something that is round like a wine bottle, you need to have one of the 3 axis move in a circular direction. This ads a 4th axis to the machine. The 4th axis can be on any of the 3 original axis depending of how the laser machine is set up. Typically it is added to the Y axis.
