A lot of people ask "What is laser cutting? and how do I get something laser cut?
Most customers stop right there because they think that it is too complicated, or that they don't understand enough about how a laser works to go any further.
The truth is, you don't need to be a professional artist, or an electrical engineer to start the process of getting something laser cut.
If you have an idea, that's really all you need to get started!
It can be something as simple as a pencil drawing on a piece of paper with a few rough measurements, or a picture of something you saw at a craft show or even a sporting event.
When we start with one of your photos, we can “Digitize” that photo in to what is called a Vector or Raster drawing which basically means that it is changed in to a picture that the computer controlling the laser can understand.
Today's drawing programs can convert many different photos or drawings in to a format that a laser cutter or engraver can use. We do that part for you so you dont need to learn how to be a graphic artist right now.
The laser only understands what we tell it, so we need to convert your idea in to a language it can comprehend. That is usually a file format like DXF, PLT or DWG. These are all formats that any type of laser or router can understand.
Once you have a drawing in one of these formats, the hard part is done.
The drawing is then modified (cleaned up) so that there are no extra cuts or parts that we don't want the laser to touch. It is “Scaled” so the finished parts will be the exact size you want and then saved as a cutting file just for you.
The next steps are where the real magic happens.
Material is placed on to the laser that is the correct thickness and size for your project.
This can be paper, cardboard, wood, tile, most plastics, and even things like leather, or rocks.
The file that was created earlier is then loaded in to the laser and away it goes.... taking your idea in to a finished product.
Give it a try!
Send us your idea and lets see where it can go. You just might be surprised by how easy it really is.
